BRAVO! All our students’ hard work and dedication lead to an outstanding debut of our Disney halftime show. Many thanks to our student intern, Mr. Thacker, for writing a great closing drill. As we continue into the second half of the season, we must make sure we continue to uphold all musical, behavioral, and procedural expectations to look good, sound good, and be a class act. We are looking for next year’s leaders NOW.

This week we will be putting a great amount of time and energy into Senior Show music, while also adding a few additional elements to the Disney Show. ALL SENIOR SHOW MUSIC MUST BE PRINTED AND IN FLIP FOLDERS BY TUESDAY’S BAND PERIOD.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, the BBHHS Music Department has recognized one student from band, choir, and orchestra as the Student of the Month. These students will be selected by directors based on work ethic, attitude, musicianship, random acts of kindness, going above and beyond, individual achievement, mentoring others, improvement, etc. The goal is to continue recognizing students for being outstanding participants of the music program.

CONGRATULATIONS to our September and October students:

Evan Shaheen – September
Evan has shown incredible improvement over the past year. He has been taking private lessons on euphonium for several years, is a member of Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble, and is a Section Leader for the Marching Bees. When Jazz Ensemble was in need of someone to play piano, Evan stepped up to fill this role. This summer Evan also attended the Ohio State Marching Band clinic where he got to experience first hand the dedication and discipline it takes to be a part of TBDBITL. All of his hard work has culminated in his acceptance to the 2020 OMEA All State Band.

Lauren Donnella – October
Lauren is currently the flute section leader for the Marching Bees and plays oboe in the Wind Ensemble. Lauren has selflessly given up her time before and after school to help her section be their best. She has been incredibly patient, but maintains high expectations for a young flute section. Lauren’s positive attitude is contagious and cultivates a great culture within the flute section. Outside of her participation in the BBHHS Band, Lauren also participates in the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, BBHHS Symphonic Orchestra, and takes private lessons on oboe.

SENIOR SHOW

Senior show music has been posted to the Music & Documents page under the “Students” menu tab. We will start this music next week, so please have it printed and in your flip folders by Monday, October 7th. Seniors have elected not to do Script Bees as part of their Senior Show, so we will be preparing 3 new tunes from past years.

PRIVATE LESSONS

With Chair Placement Audition materials released, some of our students may be considering enrolling in Private Lessons. Students who take Private Lessons advance in the band program at an accelerated pace, have the opportunity to earn honors credit, and make up a majority of our student leaders. We have several teachers that come to BBHHS during the school year and live in our community, but their schedules are becoming full with the increased enrollment in Private Lessons this year. A full list of private teachers we recommend is available HERE. Please contact Mr. Rex with any questions or assistance in finding a teacher.

We are also very proud of students’ maturity in our goal to return the instrument decorating back to the original tradition that was started over 25 years ago. CONGRATULATIONS to Nicole Flors for being selected as the 2019 Homecoming Queen!

The next two weeks will be all about the preparations for our Disney show that is slated to premier October 4th. Please make sure you are practicing music at home and working towards those check-off deadlines. Let’s make this a great show!

MUSIC CHECK-OFF UPDATE

Below are the revised music check-off deadlines for the Disney Show. The second show of the season can be a challenge to check-off since we don’t have as much time and resources as when we learned show one at band camp. Please do not procrastinate on music check-offs. The sooner you have them done the easier it will be to clean the drill with music.

  • Section Leaders/Officers – 9/24
  • Squad Leaders/Librarians/Equipment Managers – 9/27
  • All others – 10/3

PLANNED ABSENCE REQUESTS

Thank you to our parents who have helped make our transition to the digital absence request form run smoothly. This has been a huge help in keeping track of our 280 Marching Bees! Please remember that absence requests must be submitted by a parent at least TWO WEEKS in advance to be considered for an EXCUSED ABSENCE. Keep the copy of your submission sent to your e-mail until after the absence for verification. The form will remain on the right side menu, but can also be accessed directly HERE. Absences that occur past the two week cutoff must be communicated to Mr. Rex directly via e-mail.

DISNEY TRIP 2020

Our Disney Trip 2020 page is up and running! On the page you will find the following info:

While the Disney Trip is optional, please know that directors worked throughout the Spring to find the best possible price without compromising the content and experience of the trip.
