CONGRATULATIONS to our students that performed with the OMEA All-State Band and All-State Jazz Ensemble this weekend in Cincinnati! Both ensembles gave inspiring performances with world class conductors. Being selected to the OMEA All-State ensembles is the highest honor a band student can receive in Ohio. BBHHS was one of only two schools in the entire state that had representation in all four All-State ensembles(Band, Choir, Jazz, and Orchestra). We hope to have many students audition for these groups this Spring!

OMEA SOLO & ENSEMBLE

OMEA Solo & Ensemble is Saturday, February 15th. All students are responsible for their own transportation to North Ridgeville High School. All ensembles MUST schedule a time to rehearse with Mr. Rex both this week AND next. Final details will be released in next week’s bulletin and Mr. Rex should have the schedule to send out via Remind by the end of the week.

SEVERANCE HALL CD ORDERS

If you would like to purchase a CD of the Wind Ensemble and Concert Winds performance at Severance Hall please send in payment of $10.00 with your student and place it in the Band Booster lock box outside of the Band Office. DISNEY TRIP UPDATES

MAILING #2: This week we will be sending out a paper mailing that will contain many important forms for the Disney Trip and individual Bee Bucks balances. The final payment is due by March 1st. All forms are due at the REQUIRED Disney Trip Meeting on Monday, March 9th. The mailing will also be posted on the Disney Trip page by the end of the week should you need additional copies.

TRIP ROSTER VERIFICATION: All students and parents please check the Disney Attendees 2020 roster to make sure your student’s name appears on the list. Students marked with a double asterisk are those who will not be traveling with the band and will only be performing with the band. Please contact Ms. Astey with any corrections by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH. If your name is on the list and should NOT be, please also contact Ms. Astey.

ELECTRONIC FORMS: The forms below WILL NOT be included in the paper mailing, but must be filled out electronically.

  1. DIETARY NEEDS FORM – To be filled out by ALL students, chaperones, and staff traveling with the band. Due by the REQUIRED Disney Trip Meeting on Monday, March 9th.
  2. PG-13 MOVIE LIST FORM – All movies to be shown on the buses must be pre-approved. Check this list and add any additional PG-13 movies you wish to be added to the list by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH.

BAND AUDITION RESULTS

Please keep in mind that we have so many talented students in our band program and the directors have to make some very difficult decisions. KENT STATE BAND DAY

Kent State University will be hosting their spring semester High School Band Day on February 22, 2020! Attendees will experience the energy and excitement of Kent State Basketball while joining the Kent State Flasher Brass in the stands. The tentative schedule is below:

2:00 PM: Arrive and eat with the Flasher Brass. 
3:30 PM: Tip-off and playing with the Flasher Brass in the stands.

Band Auditions for 2020-2021 are now PAST DUE. ALL students in grades 8-12 must submit an audition for a grade. SENIORS must submit just Excerpt #3 for an assessment. SEVERANCE HALL UPDATES

We have just FOUR rehearsals left until Concert Winds and Wind Ensemble perform at Severance Hall. Concert Winds perform at 7:00pm with Wind Ensemble to perform immediately following. We encourage those attending the performance to arrive with enough time to find parking and seats. As part of our performance, students are required to attend the 3 preceding performing groups. Call times for Sunday will be:

Concert Winds – 2:15pm
Wind Ensemble – 1:45pm (We will have a brief warm-up before loading buses)

We are permitted to eat in our home room at Severance Hall, so students are encouraged to eat a big lunch and bring snacks to carry them over until after the performance. Concert Winds students are required to stay through the Wind Ensemble performance. Students may be signed out following Wind Ensemble’s performance. Students riding the bus should plan to arrive back at BBHHS by 9:00pm.

TICKETS: Band Boosters have a very limited quantity of tickets left for the Concert Winds and Wind Ensemble at Severance Hall on Sunday, January 26th. Tickets MUST be purchased through the BBHHS Band Boosters for $10.00, and only a limited quantity is available. To purchase tickets you can send a check made payable to BBHHS Band Boosters and place it in the lock box outside the Band Office. Tickets will be sent home with your student within a week of receiving payment. More information available HERE.

DISNEY UPDATES

UNIFORMS: All uniforms should be finished at On the Spot and ready for pickup. If you have not already done so, uniforms must be picked up by the end of the day TUESDAY and hung up at home until further notice.

ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION: Students that will NOT be traveling on the bus with the band TO or FROM Disney must fill out the Alternate Transportation Form.

REHEARSALS: We have two additional evening rehearsals scheduled for students traveling to Disney. These rehearsals are REQUIRED of all students that will be going on the trip. Please mark your calendars for the following two rehearsal dates:

Wednesday, March 25 – 6:00pm-9:00pm
Monday, April 6 – 6:00pm-9:00pm

We took inventory of our new raincoats following the Christmas Parade and found that TWO of the new raincoats are missing.  Please check at home, in cars, instrument lockers, and drum cases, and return any raincoats ASAP to the Uniform Room (NOT hallway racks).

Please check all pockets beforehand. Clean uniforms must be picked up as soon as possible from dry cleaner and then STORED AT HOME until further instruction for packing for Disney.

CONCERT BAND SECTIONALS

We are VERY excited that we have funding available this year to provide a series of sectionals with guest artists for all of our concert bands! Beginning this week, we will have guest artists coming to work with students on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our concert band periods. In additional to BBHHS directors, we are also excited to welcome:

CONSERVATORY DAY

This Saturday, January 11th, is our Conservatory Day for Concert Winds and Wind Ensemble. We will have professional musicians from all over Ohio coming to BBHHS to work with students in full band and sectional rehearsals. Dr. Jeffrey Gershman, Director of Wind Ensembles at Capital University, will serve as our guest conductor for the day. This is a REQUIRED event for all students in Concert Winds and Wind Ensemble and is crucial to our preparation for Severance Hall. The schedule for Saturday is below:

9:00am-10:30am
-Concert Winds sectionals with guest artists.
-Wind Ensemble full band rehearsal with Dr. Gershman.

10:45am-12:15pm
-Concert Winds full band rehearsal with Dr. Gershman.
-Wind Ensemble sectionals with guest artists.

12:15pm-1:00pm
-Wind Ensemble lunch break.
-Concert Winds dismissed for the day.

1:00pm-3:00pm
-Wind Ensemble full band rehearsal with Dr. Gershman.
-We may be done early, but still plan to be done at 3:00pm.

BAND AUDITIONS FOR 2020-2021

Audition materials for 2020-2021 were gone over in class with students before Winter Break. Everything is available on the audition page HERE. Please read the audition info letter completely. There are a few changes to the audition requirements for 2020-2021. Students only submit the excerpts required of their ideal concert band placement. ALL SENIORS MUST SUBMIT EXCERPT #3 ONLY FOR AN ASSESSMENT GRADE. All excerpts must be submitted with the submission form on the audition page by January 16th at 11:59pm.
