Band Bulletin – February 2017

OMEA Conference & All-State Band

This week, Mrs. Astey and Mr. Wyse will be presenting a professional development session at the Ohio Music Educators Association Conference, located in Cleveland.  Our session is entitled: “‘Play it like Chocolate’ — Rehearse with Creative Imagery to Engage Students and Achieve Musical Results,” and we will be sharing ways that Directors can use analogies and other creative methods within their rehearsals.  We will be proudly representing BBHHS!

ALL-STATE BAND – Friday @ 8:00 pm (Cleveland Convention Center)

Congratulations to our three All-State Band members:

  • Chas Backman
  • Nicholas Mihalich
  • Ava Traum

They will be performing this Friday in the Convention Center Grand Ballroom.  Admission is FREE for any who would like to attend!

We will be having a STATE SENDOFF TOMORROW AM (after 2nd period) for our All-State music students!  In addition to Chas, Nick, and Ava, we will also recognize All-State Choir members Dylan Grosh-Hoy and Noah Cronauer, and All-State Orchestra member Jasper Jones.

Ashland University Jazz – Thurs., 2/16 @ 7pm

The Ashland University Jazz Orchestra will be presenting a joint concert with the BBHHS Jazz Ensemble!  FREE and open to the public. With an exciting program featuring a wide variety of jazz styles, including swing, latin, dixieland, and funk, there is something for everyone!

The Ashland University Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Scott Garlock, has worked with guest artists such as Benny Green, Wycliffe Gordon, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Matt Wilson Quartet, Zach Brock, Doug Beach, Mark Colby, and more. The group regularly tours, with four European treks, and headlining at the East Coast Jazz Festival. The jazz groups at Ashland have won awards at the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, Villanova Jazz Festival and Williamstown Jazz Festival.

“Spring Showcase” Concert – Thurs., 4/6 @ 7pm


The Wind Ensemble will be performing with the Chamber Choir and Chamber Strings for this special event… featuring guest trumpet soloist BUDDY DESHLER.
