BAND BULLETIN #21: 1/6-1/12

HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. It may only be January, but we need to start planning for next school year. Band/Jazz Auditions for scheduling placements must be submitted online by January 18th at 11:59pm. Materials were gone over with students last week, but may also be accessed HERE. All students currently in grades 8-11 are required to complete the audition. Several of you have asked about Band Camp dates. These have not been finalized yet, but we can tell you that nothing for the whole band will begin prior to July 22nd. However, drumline and flagline camps could be sooner. The rest of January will be a slower month for the band program as we begin rehearsing for our Mid-Winter Concert and many of our students prepare for OMEA Solo & Ensemble. We hope to see many of our wonderful parents at Tuesday’s Band Booster meeting at 7:00pm!

Pep Band starts this week! Our first game is Tuesday, January 8th(CT 6:00PM). Students need to have pregame, halftime, and stands music printed off from this season and in their flip folders. All music can be accessed HERE. All other Pep Band info can be found HERE. Keep in mind that regular Pep Band participation is something that is taken into consideration for those interested in marching band leadership positions for next year.

The rehearsal schedule for this week was sent out last week, but is also available HERE. In order to be registered, Mr. Rex MUST hear all solos and ensembles this week that are not taking private lessons. SOLOISTS: You must let Mr. Rex know the name of your accompanist by Wednesday so it can be included in the registration. If your solo is written without accompaniment please let Mr. Rex know that as well.

As we begin planning for next year, we would like to start a focus group of students to do some goal setting and vision brainstorming about the short term and long term future of the band program. What does the Band Program look like next year? In 5 years? In 10 years? What do we want to see the Band Program accomplish next year? In 5 years? In 10 years? Change is a good thing, while also holding onto and evolving traditions that are of value and relevance to current and future bands. This group would meet once a month after school with Mr. Rex starting in February and would be made up of students currently in grades 8-11. We are wanting to have a diverse representation from students in all the aspects of the band program(concert bands, jazz, marching, pep, flagline, drumline, etc.). Students will be selected for the group based on interest and their mature responses to the interest form. If you are interested in being a part of this group please fill out this INTEREST FORM by January 18th.

Cleveland State University is hosting its annual Trombone Day on Sunday, February 17th. The event is FREE and is open to all high school students. This is a great opportunity for trombonists of all levels whether you take private lessons or not! More information is available HERE.
