Band Bulletin #13: 11/4-11/10

It was great to see many of our parents at conferences Thursday evening. If you were not able to attend, we encourage you to check-in with a director on your student’s progress in band. Concert bands are in full swing and off to a great start! Challenge information will be released soon for students who wish to improve their chair placement within their concert band. Challenging motivates students to continuously be improving while also allowing students to be rewarded for great improvement and dedication.

If any student was not able to turn in Citrus Sale orders on Friday, please make sure those are turned in and completed on Monday.

CONGRATULATIONS to three of our band members, Carly Kubek, Kaylee Smith, and Jacob Zywiec, who were recently named finalists for HOBY. We have some outstanding young leaders in the band program!

We hope to see many of our parents at the November Band Booster meeting on Tuesday at 7:00pm in the BBHHS Band Room. Students should plan to return any remaining uniforms/raincoats during the meeting or any time from 6:30pm-8:30pm on Tuesday. Let’s have a great week!

Show appreciation for your student athlete by placing a “Shout Out” (congratulatory message) in the Winter Athletic Program! All proceeds from the ads benefit the BBHHS Band Boosters! Information available HERE. Deadline is 11/12.

Are you looking for an opportunity to take your student’s playing and participation in band to the next level? Rettig Music will be offering a series of sales and discounts on step up and professional line instruments throughout the month of November. An intermediate or professional level instrument is a great investment for students looking to advance into Concert Winds or Wind Ensemble. These step up instruments are made of higher quality materials to improve tone quality, have extra keys/triggers for greater range, and upgraded mechanisms allowing for enhanced technical playing. These are necessary upgrades for serious players wanting to play advanced literature like Wind Ensemble. If you are not ready to commit to purchasing a step up instrument, an investment in a new mouthpiece can make a noticeable difference also. Sale dates and more info available on Rettig Music’s website. As always, we encourage you to consult a director before making any instrument purchase.

If you are interested in participating in the OMEA Solo & Ensemble Adjudicated Event please fill out the interest form HERE. Students wishing to participate must be signed up by Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Solo & Ensemble is a great opportunity to work on solo playing and small chamber ensemble playing. The skills and feedback you will gain from this experience will make you better musicians in band and can help you achieve a higher placement in the concert bands. Participation and ratings are also a factor in Tri-M consideration. Students wishing to take a solo to contests must either be taking private lessons on their instrument or commit to a weekly time with a director. All ensembles must commit to a weekly time with a director or private instructor as well.

Solo & Ensemble takes individual commitment to practice and rehearsal outside of the school day. Soloists/ensembles that do not uphold their weekly commitments will not be permitted to attend the event. Directors have the right to cancel any event they feel is not ready. Please see Mr. Rex with any questions!
