BBHHS Band Families,

Our plan has been approved to have band camp.

Please carefully watch the linked YouTube video and read through the COVID protocols seen in the below documents.

Band Camp will be different this year. In the face of this fact let’s try our best to make it as enjoyable as possible.

I look forward to meeting you and the Directors are excited to see you!

Thank you for your patience!

Please email Mr. Ciulla at with questions.

Welcome to a much needed summer break! This will be our final bulletin until after July 4th. If a question comes up between now and the next Band Bulletin, please scroll back through the past few bulletins before contacting directors. Like our students, the directors will be unplugging and recharging our batteries for a few weeks, and we will not be checking e-mail as regularly as during the school year.

We are still looking for additional tubas and flags for the 2020 edition of the Marching Bees. If you know someone that might be interested in joining band and play tuba or join Flagline it’s not too late! Due to offsite learning this Spring, Flagline auditions will be accepted through the end of June. Students interested should contact Ivory Kovach ASAP. Students interested in joining the Marching Bees on tuba or any other instrument should contact Mr. Rex ASAP. Help us recruit to balance out the band and make everyone’s experience the best it can be!

We hope you all have a great summer! Enjoy a virtual version of “Across the Field” and “On, Oh Brecksville” by Sam Dickhaut, Ayden Casa, and Luke Olesinksi to take us into summer break!

Congratulations to or 2020-2021 Drumline! Please keep in mind students are placed on an instrument that best suits their abilities with consideration for overall balance of the drumline. Since the audition process was not able to be in-person and as comprehensive as past years, there is also the possibility of some movement over the summer and at sectionals/band camp. Please feel free to contact Scott Velardo with any questions!

Congratulations also to our 2020-2021 Flagline Captains:

Melanie Clark
Elizabeth Hatcher
Heather Markiewicz

At this time we are still planning to be able to have Flagline Camp and Band Camp during the scheduled dates and times. The structure may look different from past years as decisions regarding COVID-19 and the start of the school year evolve, but students and parents should still keep the dates/times reserved that went out in the Summer DIGITAL Mailing. We hope to have more information avaiable at the beginning of July. If you did not receive the Summer DIGITAL Mailing, contact Ms. Astey. Please make sure you have all band dates for the 2020-2021 school year in your calendars.

Music and Squad Lists will be released around or before July 4th. We will send out Reminds when music is posted. Please make sure you are subscribed to the appropriate Remind accounts as listed in the Summer DIGITAL Mailing.

Make sure you are signed up for the appropriate Remind accounts…

The year has come to an end, and though things ended in a non-traditional manner, we are still so VERY PROUD of everything our students have accomplished this year. We will be finalizing grades Monday and Tuesday to reflect missing/late work that was turned in Friday and over the weekend. Please be sure to check Progress Book one last time on Tuesday for accuracy. Final grades will be submitted Wednesday morning. THANK YOU to students and parents for their patience and perseverance during this time of offsite learning.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Class of 2020! You are leaving a great legacy in the Band Program and we know you all will accomplish great things! THANK YOU to all our Senior parents as well for everything you have done to support these fine students’ participation and growth in the Band Program!

All students and chaperones that were intending to travel to Disney with the BBHHS Marching Bees are required to complete the Disney Refund Form by FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH. Marching Band members that intended to only meet the band for the parade at the Magic Kingdom do NOT need to complete this form. If you have any questions about the refund form, please contact Ms. Astey.

Our traditional Summer Mailing went out digitally this year. The mailing contains info about Band Camp, Medical Forms, and Band Booster information. Medical Forms are not due until Uniform Fitting Nights the first week of Band Camp. However, our Band Boosters are needing help immediately with Athletic Programs. If you are interested and able to help, please contact Melissa Burdick.

The mailing was posted on students’ Google Classroom and also sent out to parents via Remind and email. The Summer Digital Mailing can also be viewed HERE. ONLY STUDENTS need to confirm receipt of the Summer Digital Mailing through the confirmation form on Classroom. Parents do not need to send confirmation emails. Parents just need to ask their student to make sure they have confirmed receipt of the Summer Digital Mailing on Classroom. Please also make sure students have completed the STUDENT INFO FORM on Classroom and paid the BAND BOOSTER FEE.

We had such a great group of students apply for leadership positions this year! Unfortunately, this always makes these decisions incredibly difficult. Please keep in mind that even if you were not selected for a leadership position you can still be a leader without a title. We are always looking for our next set of student leaders and those who exhibit servitude leadership qualities. Any students or new leaders interested in leading our Loading Crew as the Equipment Manager or serving as our second Librarian please contact Mr. Rex. Results for Section Leaders, Drum Majors and Officers are below.

Everyone should be respectful and sensitive to those who were not selected for student leadership positions. You are all to be commended for being willing to serve. Please feel free to contact the directors with any questions. We will have a Student Leadership Zoom meeting on Thursday, June 4th at 1:00pm.

2020-2021 BBHHS Band Student Leadership

For Flagline results, please hop on over the the Flagline page.

Drumline results are still in progress. We will post ASAP.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY! The Marching Bees traditionally spend this holiday honoring those who have served our great country and made the ultimate sacrifice. It does feel odd not serving our communities this Memorial Day, but hopefully the video below created by alumnus AJ Gallucci from 2019 will help us honor this day virtually. Many thanks also to Jacob Zywiec and Zach Zywiec for playing Taps for the Broadview Heights Drive Thru Parade.

THANK YOU to everyone that helped with and attended the Music Department Turn-In on Friday! It was so nice to see everyone even if it was masked and socially distanced. We had just about every uniform, instrument, and folder turned in. That’s awesome! If you missed the turn-in or forgot to bring something, please bring them to your scheduled school locker clean out this week.

SENIORS: If you forgot to do so on Friday, please bring a wallet size senior photo to be included in the Class of 2020 collage to hang in the band room during your school locker clean out.

PRIVATE LESSONS: If you need a school instrument for private lessons over the summer, you will be able to check one back out during your scheduled school locker clean out. Complete your locker clean out and then drive around to the Band Room doors. The doors will be locked, so make sure you knock. Please also let Mr. Rex know an approximate time when you will be picking the instrument up. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we complete a thorough inventory.

Tuesday night at 7:00pm we will be streaming our virtual Band Awards. We will recognize every student in the band program and honor the Class of 2020. Band Officers have been working to keep our traditions going virtually, so don’t miss the Band Superlatives and slideshow!

This year we will be experimenting with sending out our traditional Summer Mailing digitally. The Summer Mailing will be sent out to all parent e-mails in our database and posted on the Wind Ensemble, Concert Winds, Intermediate Band, Symphonic Band, and 8th Grade Band Google Classroom by the end of the day Tuesday, May 26th. Students will need to confirm receipt of the digital mailing on Google Classroom by Thursday, May 28th. Confirming receipt of the Summer Digital Mailing will be the final grade for students in grades 8-11.

It certainly does not seem like the last week of school, but here we are! There are several VERY IMPORTANT items to wrap up this week before students “check-out” for summer:

OFFICER ELECTIONS & DRUM MAJOR VOTING: Officer Elections and Drum Major voting will occur during certain time frames on Google Classroom. Students will need to logon to Google Classroom during designated times to watch officer speeches and watch Drum Major conducting auditions. OFFICER ELECTIONS – Tuesday, May 26th, 11am-12pm. DRUM MAJOR VOTING – Wednesday, May 27th, 11am-12pm. NO LATE VOTES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

MISSING/LATE WORK: All missing/late work MUST be turned in on Google Classroom by FRIDAY, MAY 29th.

STUDENT INFO FORM: ALL STUDENTS currently in grades 8-11 MUST complete the Student Info Form by Tuesday, May 26th. ALL STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN GRADES 8-11 WILL RECEIVE A GRADE FOR COMPLETING THIS FORM. If you are not planning to continue with band at this time, we still need you to update your contact info in case we need to contact you over the summer.

COMMITMENT FORM: Please also read the May Commitment Form. In addition to filling out the Student Info Form, the Band Booster Fee is what secures your commitment/enrollment in band for the 2020-2021 school year. This needs to also me completed by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 26th.
