Band Students of the Month

Beginning in the 2018-2019 school year, the BBHHS Music Department has recognized one student from band, choir, and orchestra as the Student of the Month. These students will be selected by directors based on work ethic, attitude, musicianship, random acts of kindness, going above and beyond, individual achievement, mentoring others, improvement, etc. The goal is to continue recognizing students for being outstanding participants of the music program. The selected students will be featured on the enclosed bulletin board next to the instrument storage room.

2019-2020

September: Evan Shaheen
Evan has shown incredible improvement over the past year. He has been taking private lessons on euphonium for several years, is a member of Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble, and is a Section Leader for the Marching Bees. When Jazz Ensemble was in need of someone to play piano, Evan stepped up to fill this role. This summer Evan also attended the Ohio State Marching Band clinic where he got to experience first hand the dedication and discipline it takes to be a part of TBDBITL. All of his hard work has culminated in his acceptance to the 2020 OMEA All State Band.

October: Lauren Donnella
Lauren is currently the flute section leader for the Marching Bees and plays oboe in the Wind Ensemble. Lauren has selflessly given up her time before and after school to help her section be their best. She has been incredibly patient, but maintains high expectations for a young flute section. Lauren’s positive attitude is contagious and cultivates a great culture within the flute section. Outside of her participation in the BBHHS Band, Lauren also participates in the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, BBHHS Symphonic Orchestra, and takes private lessons on oboe.

November:
Carly Kubek
Carly is the alto saxophone section leader for the Marching Bees. Carly always defines the band motto of “Look Good. Sound Good. Be a Class Act.” in everything she does. She has been incredibly patient, but maintains high expectations in her section. Carly’s enthusiasm is contagious and cultivates a positive culture throughout the entire performing arts program at BBHHS. Outside of her participation in band, Carly is also involved in MIM, Chamber Choir, and Drama. Her continued dedication, discipline, and work ethic have earned her a lead in the Fall Play and principal Alto Saxophone in Concert Winds.
